Middlesbrough Wedding Photographer

Helen and Jay's wedding day was a sweet affair at Normanby Methodist Church and afterwards at Marton Hotel and Country Club in Middlesbrough. There was a number of children at the wedding and they were well catered for with the amply stocked candy bar filled with "all sorts" of traditional sweets from "liquorice laces" through to "rhubarb and custards".
As a reportage style wedding photographer I capture the flavour of the day through my photography in a series of pictures that tell the story of the day in a way that traditional wedding photography simply can't.
Helen and Jay's fun filled relationship is evident to anyone who sees them together and I consider it a pleasure to have been witness to this splendid occassion.
Jays army posting means that they will be moving away from the area and starting married life in Gloucester.
I wish them all the very best of luck wherever they go!!

Documentary Style Wedding Photography at Rushpool Hall, Saltburn

Colin and Clare's wedding at Rushpool Hall, Saltburn was officially a "day off" for me as this was a family wedding and I wanted to be free to enjoy the celebrations with everyone else! Of course, being a documentary style wedding photographer meant that I also wanted to take my camera and record some of the day for my own benefit!
Rushpool Hall is a very special venue with spectacular backdrops looking out over the lake and the sea which is just visible through the woods. The interior makes it ideal for reportage style wedding photography as the dark interior and the large windows create very atmospheric lighting.
Colins interest in all things Star Trek meant that the wedding had a slant I had never previously witnessed before including a speech that was spoken in "klingon...(ese)"
The wedding day was very special for many reasons, not least of all because it was Clare's birthday!! Naturally it was Colin who was light years ahead of everyone else when he kickstarted the singing of "Happy Birthday" to his new wife shortly after the speeches had been wrapped up, and he was joined by all the guests who certainly gave it their all to ensure that Mrs Lewis was left in no doubt that her birthday had not been left in a time warp!

My very best wishes go out to Colin and Clare as they set out on a new journey together!

Event Photography in Stockton

The Stockton International Riverside festival is always a fun filled weekend and so it was with great pleasure that I accepted an invitation to capture the atmosphere and energy of the weekend for Manifesto, a Sunderland based magazine with its ears firmly clamped to the ground of grass roots music. The weekend will go down in history as the inaugural Stockton Weekender but for many it was just another fabulous weekend filled with the sound of music!!
The pictures I have selected from the last day of the festival depict The Wildcats of Kilkenny doing what they do best...

Documentary style wedding photography at the Manor House...

The Manor House Hotel was the perfect setting for the marriage of Tristan and Lorna. It was one of those weddings where you simply "had to be there" to appreciate the planning that had gone into making their day just perfect... even the sun did what its supposed to!
These are just some of my favourite photos from the day.

Cool Jazz on a hot summers day...

I was recently approached by Sarah Travena an up and coming Saxophonist to do some promotional photographs. We arranged to meet on a Sunday afternoon at The Jazz Cafe in Pink Lane, Newcastle and I was blown away by the atmosphere of this small and very friendly pub situated in the heart of Newcastle where local musicians just turn up and play. Photographs taken, I sat back and soaked up the atmosphere of this traditional pub and chilled to the smouldering sounds of Jazz being played just as it should be.... with energy, heart and soul!
It won't be too long before I make a return journey to chill out in one of the friendliest pubs that Newcastle has to offer.

Flash Bang Wallop!...

The aquisition of a brand new Nikon SB 900 flashgun was the perfect excuse to ask my daughter to accompany me on a walk along the beach at Redcar to test out my new "toy". Over the years she has learnt to humour me at such times and willingly agreed to model for me whilst I experimented with different settings.
I was very impressed with the results and the SB 900 was immediately installed into my camera bag as an essential part of my equipment.
I think the results speak for themselves and will be using it on a regular basis for all my wedding and portrait sessions in future!

Pre wedding shoot at Margrove Park, Guisborough

Helen works within the fabulous surroundings of Margrove Park
so the venue for the engagement shoot was with thanks to her boss!
The timing for the shoot was organised around Jays Army leave and coincided with glorious sunshine all weekend.
We met up one Sunday teatime and had a very relaxed and informal shoot with lots of fun and laughter interspersed with bouts of play-fighting!
The wedding seems set to be a fun filled event for everyone!

Iceni on stage and on fire....

Its one of the perks of the job that I am sometimes able to mix business with pleasure, and it was one of those such occasions when I recently went to Newcastle to do some promotional photographs for the band Iceni.
They are a female trio with an original mix of upbeat music that would grace the charts with just a slice of luck and some radio airplay. I suspect that you have never heard of them....I predict one day you will!
